A local hospital recently was recognized by a health-care industry publication as being among the highest performing physician-owned hospitals nationwide.
Summa Western Reserve Hospital was included in Becker’s Hospital Review’s listing of “56 Physician-Owned Hospitals to Know.” The list is available online at www.beckershospitalreview.com.
The editors selected the hospitals from among about 240 doctor-owned facilities nationwide based on clinical awards, quality care, patient satisfaction rankings and other criteria.
The 105-bed, for-profit hospital in Cuyahoga Falls is owned by local doctors, along with minority partner Summa Health System.
“The patient’s needs and desires are paramount, and our mission of always putting the patient first in everything we do allows us to continue to find success,” Dr. Robert Kent, the hospital’s president and chief executive, said in a news release. “I am proud of the entire Western Reserve Hospital staff in earning this accolade, and look forward to even more accomplishments in the coming year.”
Last year, Becker’s Hospital Review also recognized Kent in its “300 Hospitals and Health System Leaders to Know” list. (The list also included Dr. Thomas “Tim” Stover, president and chief executive of Akron General Health System.)
“In three years, Dr. Kent transformed a struggling community hospital into a successful physician-led institution with a $4.4 million profit in 2011,” Becker’s Hospital Review said on its website.
