Home Depot is hiring

The Home Depot will hire about 225 seasonal employees in the Dayton area and 80,000 across the country as the nation’s largest home-improvement retailer gears up for its peak construction and renovation season, company officials announced Wednesday.

Nationwide, the company is hiring 80,000 seasonal employees, about 10,000 more than last year to support anticipated sales growth in the spring, Home Depot officials said.

Last year, about half of those hired into seasonal positions later moved into permanent positions, said Home Depot spokesman Stephen Holmes. “It’s a great foot in the door,” he said.

Tim Crow, Home Depot’s executive vice president of human resources, said in a news release, “We find some of our best associates during our peak season, and many of them have built long, meaningful careers with us.”

Job seekers can apply online at http://www.careers.homedepot.com. Technical school and college students, as well as retirees, are encouraged to apply, company officials said.

Changes at Ohio casinos

Hollywood Casino Columbus will reduce the number of slot machines it operates by about 500, and add six poker tables.

The changes are a response to customer demand, said Ameet Patel, vice president and general manager of the casino.

“Perhaps the biggest thing we’ve learned is that Columbus loves poker,” he said in a news release.

The slot-machine reduction will take place over the next several months, and comes after disappointing revenue reports in the casino’s first three months of operation.

The average revenue generated per slot machine at Hollywood Columbus in December was $115 per day.

At the Scioto Downs “racino,” the revenue was $151 for each of the 2,117 machines. It was $265 at Horseshoe Cleveland, which recently reduced its number of slots by about 230 to 1,854.

At Hollywood Casino Toledo, the 2,037 slots generated $175 in revenue per day.
