Looking to shape up your work force?
Local businesses can learn tips to help their employees become healthier during the fifth Summit County Worksite Wellness Conference.
The event will run from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sept. 13 in downtown Akron at the Akron-Summit County Public Library, 60 S. High St.
Keynote addresses will be given by Dr. Janine E. Janosky, vice president of the Austen BioInnovation Institute in Akron’s Center for Community Health Improvement; and Dr. Thomas “Tim” Stover, president and chief executive of Akron General Health System, which operates three health and wellness centers in the region, as well as Akron General Medical Center.
Participants can attend sessions on childhood obesity, acupuncture, workplace wellness policy development, workplace wellness grants, tips for implementing a program, mental and emotional wellness, tobacco cessation, alternative medicine, hypnosis, weight loss and other areas.
Sponsors include Summit County Public Health, Akron General, Kaiser Permanente, 1-888-OHIOCOMP and SummaCare.
Cost is $25, which includes parking, a continental breakfast and box lunch.

Zumbathon in Canton
Get ready to get moving for a good cause.
The Mercy Hospice Zumbathon will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 14 at Mercy Medical Center, 1320 Mercy Drive Northwest, Canton. Registration will start at 5:30 p.m.
No experience is necessary to participate in the Latin-inspired Zumba event, which will raise money for Mercy Hospice.
Cost is $5. T-shirts will be available for $15.

Pelvic health discussed
Akron General is presenting two free events for women focusing on pelvic health.
Wine, Women & Wellness: You Don’t Have to Whisper — Pelvic Health Issues Addressed will take place at 6 p.m. Sept. 20 at Akron General’s Health & Wellness Center-Green, 1940 Town Park Boulevard; and 6 p.m. Sept. 27 at Akron General’s Health & Wellness Center-West, 4125 Medina Road, Bath Township.
Dr. Ray Bologna and Dr. Costas Apostolis will lead the discussion about incontinence and related issues.

Free arthritis event
The Arthritis Foundation is hosting a free Medina County Arthritis Expo from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Sept. 18 at the Medina Performing Arts Center, main stage auditorium, 851 Weymouth Road, Medina.
The event is sponsored by the performing arts center and the Cleveland Clinic.
These health-care experts from the Cleveland Clinic are scheduled to speak: Dr. Kenneth Greene, new strategies for hip replacement; Dr. Rochelle Rosian, advances in rheumatoid arthritis treatment; podiatrist Sara Creasy, treating foot and ankle arthritis; and Dr. Joseph Scarcella, partial knee replacement.
The event will include a demonstration of the Arthritis Foundation exercise program, exhibits, refreshments, door prizes and educational information.
