Philpott Energy & Transportation Co. is a year-old subsidiary of Philpott Rubber, an employee-owned company founded 124 years ago.
The subsidiary provides biodegradable and environmentally friendly cleansing agents that go into horizontal wells after they have been hydraulically fractured, or fracked, and before they go into full production.
The cleansing of sand and chemicals by the proprietary polymers that are pumped from the bottom of the well enables the wells to operate at peak efficiency.
Philpott Energy & Transportation accounts for about 25 percent of Philpott Rubber’s business, said Michael Baach, president and chief executive officer.
Five Philpott Energy crews work with drillers in West Virginia.
The company intends to market its products in Ohio, Pennsylvania and perhaps New York for use in wells tapping Utica and Marcellus shale formations for natural gas and related liquids.
Philpott Rubber specializes in custom-molded rubber and plastic parts, standard polymeric products and quality adhesives. It employs 30 people.
