A $180 million Akron Children’s Hospital Critical Care Tower will be built on the site. Considine said that he ate a lot of breakfasts at Wally Waffle near downtown. Wally Waffle moved to West Market Street in Highland Square late last year. Constructed about 1913, the building served as the home of United Vacuum Cleaners for nearly 60 years until the business moved in December to Home Avenue in North Akron. Other previous tenants of the building included Meeker’s Kitchen, Brendan & Finn’s Irish Pub and Ed Niam’s Parkette Restaurant. This is the first of the buildings along Locust Street to come down over the next few weeks to make way for the new tower.
