Hill to speak at Chamber
Edward W. “Ned” Hill, dean, professor and local economy expert at Cleveland State University, will be the keynote speaker Nov. 8 at the Greater Akron Chamber’s Economic Outlook 2013 program.
Hill’s presentation is called, “The long road to recovery from the recession of 2007: Will the results from the presidential election make a difference?” He will review the performance of the national economy and the Northeast Ohio economy.
Hill’s current research focuses on the interactions between economic development strategy and policy and business strategy. He looks at regional product portfolios, strategies to support manufacturing and local economic development.
The program starts with registration at 7:30 a.m. at the Hilton Akron/Fairlawn, 3180 W. Market St. in Fairlawn, with breakfast starting at 7:45. Hill’s talk will be from 8 to 9:15 a.m. Cost is $30 per chamber member or $45 for nonmembers. Incubator is recognized
The Akron Global Business Accelerator — an incubator for startup companies — has been ranked as the top business incubator in Ohio by a Cincinnati area business publication.
The weekly Business Courier ranked 11 Ohio incubators, using eight measures, including total revenue generated by incubator tenants, capital raised by tenants, total payroll of tenants and new jobs for all incubator tenants. All of the incubators receive funding from the Ohio Department of Development. The Akron incubator receives state and local funding.
Here is how the Akron incubator fared on four of the measures: 48 tenants and 382 jobs as of June 30; $46.6 million in total revenue of tenants for the year ended June 30; $35.7 million in capital raised for the year.
Franchising seminar set
Franchising will be the focus of a free seminar by local attorney Dominic Frisina at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the main Akron-Summit County Public Library in downtown Akron.
Frisina’s talk is titled To Franchise Or Not To Franchise … What Was The Question? and will review franchising as a form of business growth.
The seminar will be in Meeting Room 2 at the library at 60 S. High St.

Goodyear results on Oct. 26
Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. will report its third quarter 2012 financial results on Oct. 26 before the stock market opens.
Executives from the Akron tire maker will hold an investor conference call at 8:30 a.m. with industry analysts. Richard J. Kramer, chairman and chief executive officer, and Darren R. Wells, executive vice president and chief financial officer, will take part in the call.

Gas available for trucks
Smith Dairy Trucking is making its new compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling island in Orrville available to other trucking fleets. Smith Dairy opened the CNG facility this summer to provide fuel for its fleet of natural gas-powered vehicles. The privately owned station, designed for 18-wheel truck traffic, is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Smith Dairy said the station accepts fleet accounts and credit card payments. The CNG fueling station is at 444 Hostetler Road.
Smith Dairy said its new CNG-powered tractor trucks can travel 325 miles on a fill-up.
