New vehicle sales in Northeast Ohio rose in June from a year ago. And sales for the first six months of 2013 were ahead of the same period a year ago as well.
June sales of new cars and light trucks hit 19,566 in a 21-county area of Northeast Ohio, up 6.6 percent from 18,353 a year ago, according to the Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers’ Association.
Figures are based on new vehicle registrations.
Summit County new vehicle sales rose to 2,044 last month, up 4.1 percent from 1,964 a year ago, according to the Northeast Ohio Auto Dealers Association. Used vehicle sales in June dropped less than 1 percent from last year, to 2,707 from 2,725. Used vehicle sales since Jan. 1 in Summit County totaled 17,406, up 4.1 percent from 16,719 for the first six months of 2012.
For the first six months of 2013, new car sales totaled 113,375 in Northeast Ohio, up 8.4 percent from 104,572 for the first six months of 2012, according to the Cleveland automobile dealers group.
Summit County new car sales for the first half of the year were 11,672, up 8 percent, from 10,811, for the first half of 2012, according to the Akron-based dealers group.
Ford this year boasts the top three best-selling vehicles in Summit County.
At the top is the Ford Escape compact SUV with 425 sales, up 3.1 percent, from 412, for the first half of 2012, according to the Northeast Ohio Auto Dealers Association.
The Ford Focus is the second-best selling car in the county this year with 343 sales, up from 299 a year ago. The Fusion mid-size car was third at 335, up 20.5 percent from 278 for the first six months of 2012.
