Forget the turkey, to the chagrin of some at the dinner table, this Thanksgiving will be about shopping for many.
Retailers in the Akron area have pushed up their Black Friday hours well into Thanksgiving with many stores open all day on the holiday and others throwing open the doors before the turkey is even cool.
The Beacon Journal plans to cover the shopping hoopla with a series of stories all week.
They include:
■ Wednesday: Police reporter Phil Trexler talks to area police departments about efforts to ensure a safe and orderly Black Friday.
■ Thursday: Columnist Betty Lin-Fisher offers shopping tips and pitfalls to avoid in the shopping aisles as readers pore over the stack of retailer ads in Thursday’s Akron Beacon Journal.
■ Friday: Business reporter Jim Mackinnon braves the crowds and checks out the progress of bargain shoppers on Thanksgiving.
■ Saturday: We look at how the start of the holiday shopping season stacked up both locally and nationally.
