Concerned Citizens Ohio is resuming its water testing on a quarterly basis on Sunday.
The water samples can be brought to Sand Hill Stable at 4311 State Route 303 just west of state Route 44 in Portage County’s Shalersville Township.
It is the first sampling date since the grass-roots group switched to quarterly testing.
Trained volunteers will test for chemicals and salts that can show possible contamination from nearby drilling, injection wells or pipeline leaks.
The water evaluations are not certified by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency but they do provide a baseline sample in the event of future contamination, the group says.
To collect a sample, first run the cold water for 10 minutes before the water reaches hot-water heaters, softeners or other treatment.
Collect the sample in a clean large-mouth glass jar, at least two cups. Names should be affixed to the jars.
Participants should remain in the lounge area of the barn during the testing and not disturb any animals.
The next tests will be offered in March.
