Americhem Inc., the Cuyahoga Falls maker of color concentrates that end up in a variety of polymer products, has appointed a new president from outside the company.

The new president is John M. Deignan, 46, previously chief marketing officer at Diebold Inc., the Green-headquartered maker of ATMs and bank security systems.

He succeeds Dorian Alexandrescu, who joined Americhem as president in early 2012 and left the post five months later.

Alexandrescu now is in the Boston area working as CEO of Resa Power Solutions LLC, a company with business units involved in power distribution and control markets.

Deignan’s 20-plus year tenure at Diebold included various leadership roles. He was vice president of sales in North America, as well as managing director for Canada and managing director for Australia.

Americhem’s CEO, Richard Juve, said in a news release that Deignan will lead the day-to-day operations of the company and “foster Americhem’s strategic relationships with customers.”

Deignan received a bachelor of science degree in economics from Marquette University in Milwaukee and a master of science in international business from Roosevelt University in Chicago.

He serves on the boards of Youth Opportunities Unlimited, which offers entrepreneurship, employment and education programs in the Cleveland area, and the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission.

The company, which employs more than 500 worldwide, makes coloring and additive chemicals for automotive, packaging, fiber and other industries. Locally, the company has a plant in Cuyahoga Falls on Steels Corners Road and a headquarters/research and development facility off Broad Boulevard.

Plastics News, a trade journal, said the privately held firm does not disclose sales figures, but “market watchers” estimate that the company’s annual sales are more than $150 million. Plastics News said its own analysis shows Americhem ranks as one of North America’s 30 largest compounders and concentrate makers.
