New group leader named
A group formed to attract and retain immigrants and others to Cuyahoga County, seeing the newcomers as a boost to the region’s economy, has a new president: Joy Roller, executive director for the Gordon Square District.
Roller, a graduate of Cleveland Marshall College of Law at Cleveland State University, has been executive director of the Gordon Square Arts District since 2006. The district is completing a $30 million capital campaign to support arts and nonprofit organizations involved in revitalizing the area.
Roller succeeds Larry Miller, who resigned in October. Miller was a former vice president for human resources at Lubrizol Corp., with headquarters in Wickliffe, when he was tapped to head the nonprofit.

Layoffs at Timken
Timken Co. expects temporary layoffs in December at two Stark County steel mills following long-term layoffs of 160 people in recent months, the Repository in Canton reported.
Timken expects one-week shutdowns of its Harrison and Faircrest steel mills next month, the newspaper said. December is typically when customer demand for steel slows, Timken said. Between 300 and 400 people at the two plants will be laid off on alternating weeks, the Repository said.
The long-term layoffs earlier this year were because of weaker demand for Timken steel and bearings.
Timken in late October reported lower third-quarter earnings and sales from a year ago but said it has solid performance in light of a weak global economy. Demand will rebound in 2013, executives said.
Timken twice this year has revised its earnings outlook downward. The company expects to end 2012 with sales down 3 to 5 percent compared to 2011. Earnings will range from $4.75 to $4.95 per share, the company said.
On Friday, Timken declared a quarterly dividend of 23 cents per share payable on Dec. 4 to shareholders of record Nov. 26. That will mark the 362nd consecutive quarterly dividend paid by Timken since it was listed on the New York Stock Exchange in 1922.

UPS plans to increase rates
UPS says it is increasing rates in 2013. The world’s largest package delivery company said it is hiking its prices by an average 4.5 percent for UPS AIR and international services that originate in the U.S. It is increasing the price for its UPS ground services by 4.9 percent. UPS is also increasing its rates for several of its next-day and other expedited services within and between the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico by 4.9 percent.
The average increases will be achieved through a combination of increases on its base rates and reductions in its fuel surcharge rates. The new rates can be found on the company’s website, www.ups.com, and will take effect on Dec. 31.
