Akron company sees profit in products to help quench thirst

An Akron enterprise wants to add zing to your water.

Zing Anything’s infusers are souped-up water bottles that allow you to quickly flavor water. Put your fruit or other ingredient in the bottom compartment of the Aqua Zinger — with small blades — and twist.

“It’s not like we invented flavored water,” 34-year-old company founder Josh Lefkovitz said. “We’re creating tools that allow you to make it nearly instantaneously.”

The grinding quickly releases the flavor into the water, eliminating the need for lots of steeping time, Lefkovitz noted. A screen keeps the fruit goo in the bottom area.

The Aqua Zinger and Citrus Zinger — with an old-fashioned juicer in the bottom — are available at Brookstone stores. The gift and gadget retailer also is carrying Lefkovitz’s Vodka Zinger, similar to the Aqua Zinger.

Zing Anything infusers also are available online at
www.zinganything.com and at various other stores.

The Zing Anything line is a new venture for Lefkovitz, who is founder and president of Pain Management Technologies (PMT) Inc., a maker and distributor of electrotherapy devices — such as TENS units that stimulate nerves, and other home medical supplies.

Lefkovitz, an avid runner who eschews sugary drinks, got the inspiration for Zing Anything from his own habit of flavoring water, using a tea ball containing mashed up fruit.

He said he hopes it will appeal to those like him who “want a naturally flavored beverage without sugar added.”

Zing Anything operates out of PMT’s offices off Home Avenue in Akron. PMT’s products include heating pads and massage and at-home traction devices.

There’s no PMT manufacturing plant; items are made under contract by others. Zing Anything products are made in Asia. Some of the products’ materials are made in the United States.

Lefkovitz said manufacturing the Zing Anything items in the United States would be so costly “they’d have to be priced out of the marketplace.”

The Aqua Zinger and Vodka Zinger sell for $25.95 and the Citrus Zinger sells for $16.95.

Lefkovitz, a graduate of Ohio State University, splits his time between Chicago and Akron.
