SUFFIELD TWP.: In what has become an endearing holiday tradition for Northeast Ohio families, Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. on Friday threw open the giant doors to its blimp hangar at Wingfoot Lake for motorists to drive through.
A steady stream of cars made its way into the hangar at 841 Wingfoot Lake Road to drop off toys for deserving families and catch a glimpse of Santa checking out the company’s signature blimp.
People are encouraged to drop off new, unwrapped toys and cash for the Toys for Tots Foundation program from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and noon to 7 p.m. Sunday.
Goodyear and the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve are promoting Toys for Tots at the Akron tire maker’s three U.S. blimp bases.
The Suffield base is open to drive-through traffic only. There is no charge. A donation is not required to drive through.
In 2010 and 2011, a combined 4,942 vehicles dropped off 12,543 toys and collected $16,343.
