Akron’s GOJO Industries Inc. has been honored by the Matthew 25: Ministries for its corporate and social well-being initiatives.
GOJO earned the Green Giving Partner Seal from the Cincinnati group for donating surplus goods and products that are slightly damaged or close to expiration.
GOJO has been contributing soap and Purell hand sanitizer to the ministries to assist in its global relief efforts for more than three years.
The partnership with Matthew 25: Ministries has allowed GOJO to divert 1.3 million pounds of product this year from landfills, said Sunshine Scherer, GOJO’s environmental manager.
That, she said, included pallets of goods sent to help East Coast victims of Superstorm Sandy.
Added ministries spokesman Mike Schulte: “It’s good to work with a company that cares so much and provides products that make a difference.”
GOJO also donated hand hygiene products to the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank, Second Harvest of Toronto, Food Banks Canada and Summit Missions International.
