Summit County’s jobless rate rose to 6 percent in November from 5.9 percent in October, state figures released Friday show.
The county’s rate a year ago was 7.4 percent.
Akron’s unemployment rate rose to 6.6 percent last month from 6.5 percent in October; the rate was 8.3 percent a year ago.
The jobless rate in Cuyahoga Falls dropped to 5.7 percent in November from 5.8 percent in October. The rate was 7.1 percent in November 2011.
There were 266,900 people counted as working last month in Summit County, up from 262,300 a year ago. Since 2000, employment in November peaked at 283,100 in 2006 and hit a low of 262,100 in 2010, state figures for the county show.
Looked at a slightly different way, jobs in the Akron Metropolitan Statistical Area — defined as Summit and Portage counties — fell by 700 from October to 330,400 in November. Manufacturing jobs dropped by 300, while jobs in mining, logging and construction fell 600. Service industry jobs grew by 200.
Jobless rates increased in 66 of Ohio’s 88 counties.
The low ranged from 3.9 percent in Mercer County to a high of 11.9 percent in Pike County. Rates were not adjusted to take into account seasonal factors.
Ohio’s comparable jobless rate was 6.5 percent; the state’s seasonally adjusted rate was 6.8 percent. The national unemployment rate, not seasonally adjusted, was 7.4 percent in November; the adjusted rate was 7.7 percent.
The figures do not count people who are unemployed but stopped looking for work or who are working part time but want a full-time job.
Elsewhere in Northeast Ohio:
• Cuyahoga County’s unemployment rate rose to 7 percent in November from 6.2 percent in October. The rate was 7.2 percent a year ago. Cleveland’s jobless rate hit 8.8 percent last month, up from 7.9 percent in October and down from 9.6 percent a year ago.
• Medina County’s unemployment rate was 5.6 percent last month, up from 5 percent in October and down from 5.7 percent in November 2011.
• Portage County’s jobless rate rose to 6 percent in November from 5.8 percent in October. The rate was 6.7 percent a year ago.
• Stark County’s jobless rate rose to 6.4 percent in November from 6.2 percent the previous month. The rate was 7.8 percent a year ago. Canton’s jobless rate rose to 7.5 percent last month from 7.2 percent in October, and was down from 9.5 percent a year ago.
• Wayne County had a 5.4 percent jobless rate last month, up from 5.2 percent in October and down from 6.5 percent in November 2011.
